Burn Mark, by Laura Powell

#1: "By the time Lucas went to meet Glory and Angeline, he was much more at ease in his second skin.  He could craft Harry's glamour in under fifteen minutes, and get the perfect image each time.  Zoey also used a glamour for undercover work, but even though she'd had much more practice than Lucas, it took her considerably longer to complete.  It left her tired and dizzy too."

#2: "He immediately brought up the National Witchkind Database.  There were four access levels.  Level One recorded the names of anyone suspected but not proven to be a witch.  Level Two provided basic information on all proven witches whose identity wasn't classified.  Level Three gave access to their personal files.  Level Four contained summarised reports on all witches whose identity was secret or sensitive.  To read their complete case histories you had to apply directly to their warden, or whichever state offical was responsible for their supervision."

The Wild Queen, by Carolyn Meyer

#1: “The duke and the cardinal stood before me, waiting expectantly for me to agree to the scheme they had proposed, as I always had in the past.  I understood now that they had deceived me into signing documents that, had I died while Francois still lived, would have made Scotland a province of France.  I deeply resented their deception.”

#2: “I removed the dressing gown and took a long moment to study my reflection in the polished silver of the mirror.  What I saw pleased me.  I had been praised for my beauty since my childhood.  It was gratifying to have courtiers and ladies in waiting and servants tell me that I was beautiful, but one was always a bit doubtful of their sincerity.

Graceling, by Kristin Cashore

#1: " Katsa set out with Oll and a convoy of soldiers.  When the soldiers caught the underlord, they dragged him to the square of the nearest village, where a scattering of startled people watched, slack jawed.  Katsa instructedthe soldiers to make the man kneel.  In one motion she snapped his neck.  There was no blood; there was no more than an instant's pain."

#2: "She sprang to her feet and swung at his jaw with the side of her hand.  She lessened the force of the blow only at the last instant, when she realized he hadn't raised his arm to block her.  Her hand hit his face with a sickening crack.  She watched, horrified, as his chair toppled backward and his head slammed against the floor.  She'd hit him hard.  She knew she'd hit him hard.  And he hadn't defended himself."

Grave Mercy, by Robin LaFevers

#1: "I should do something.  Search through his things, or try to escape to my own room, or...in truth, my wits have left me, for I cannot think what I ought to do.  My back is burning and my heart still races.  In the end, I decide to remain seated and try to compose myself.  Surely recovering my wits is the highest priority."

#2: "His skin under my fingers twitches and suddenly I no longer see the scars, but the shift of taut muscle and the broadness of his shoulders.  Heat rushes into my cheeks and, unable to stop myself, I look up to meet his gaze.  He lifts my hand and kisses it."

The Nightmare Garden, by Caitlin Kittredge

#1: "We struggled to our feet, and Dean went first along the narrow span of corridor that hadn't been blown away.  To the side was open air, and below I could see down at least four decks, sparks and escaping aether mingling to create tongues of short-lived blue fire amid the twisted wreckage."

#2: "My Weird came as intolerable pressure against my skull.  My vision skewed and filled with the glow of the aether lamps, but I pushed the pain back.  I grabbed the pressure and squeezed it out through my pores, my tear ducts, my nose and mouth, funneled the thing in my blood into the lock.  It popped open, dead bolt flying back so violently it bowed the iron of the door, which in turn swung back and hit the cell wall with a sound like a gong."

Dreamless, by Josephine Angelini

#1: "Helen stowed her shock, planted her left foot, and booted the monster with all her might.  It didn't seem to hurt the hellhound at all.  Instead, all the kick managed to do was get the beast's attention.  Helen stumbled back.  The monster turned  its glowing red eyes on her.  She squeaked in terror as the beast dove at her."

#2: "To Helen, it looked like Cassandra was as unconcerned with the emotional querral between Jason and Claire as she would be with a TV show that happened to be on in the background while she was trying to read.  In a way, this was more disheartening than anything that had been said during the fight.  Jason obviously held some kind of grudge against Helen, but at least they all cared about each other.  Helen didn't know if the same was true of Cassandra anymore."

Fated, by Alyson Noel

#1: "I creep under Cade's T-shirt.  Using extreme caution to cling to the fabric and not him.  The last thing I need is to tip him off-from what I've seen, he might consider me less of a nuisance and more a nice little morsel to eat."

#2: "My arm outstreched, about to grab hold of her shoulder, really let her have it, when she turns, her smeary, red-rimmed eyes meeting mine, not the least bit happy about it.  They're deciding my future without my consent.  Not stopping to think that I might want a vote."

Broken Illusions, by Ellie James

***PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE TEASERS WERE TAKEN FROM AN ARC OF THIS BOOK AND THEREFORE MIGHT NOT BE THE SAME AS IN THE FINISHED COPY***

#1: "I'd arrived in New Orleans with little more than my grandmother's Buick to my name. Prior to that I'd lived in jeans and T-shirts and hiking boots. I'd worn lip balm, not lip gloss, had never thought about mascara or straightening irons. I'd had no use for jewelry-or a cell phone."
#2: "The whispers came from all directions, swarming, making it impossible to discern one from the other. I spun around anyway and saw--he stood beyond the far drink station, as motionless as the statues, tall, shoulders wide, face hidden by a smooth, round mask. A hooded black robe concealed everything else." What's your teaser this Tuesday?

Elemental, by Emily White

**PLEASE NOTE: These teasers were taken from an ARC edition of this book so the quotes might not be the same as the finished copy**

#1: "When I walked through the doorway, the huge room felt much smaller than before.  I rushed to my unmade bed and sat down with my legs crossed.  I didn't exactly know my motivation behind the move.  Maybe it was because my mind was running wild with the assumptions I was afraid were going through Cailen's head, and DI wanted to hide the messy sheets.  Surely he would't actually think Malik and I..."

#2: "I crumpled onto the floor and let my cheek rest against the cold metal.  It felt soothing against my hot, clammy skin-familiar.   I groaned.  The thought that a cold, metal floor should comfort me with its familiarity absolutely revolted me.  Never in my wildest imaginings had I thought I would look back at any part of my time on Sho'ful with longing."

Daughter of Smoke and Bone, by Laini Taylor

#1: "Gone entirely was the quivering madman Akiva had hauled up off the cobbles of the plaza.  Izil was sitting up now, or as near as he could come to it, encumbered as he was by Razgut, who looked back and forth in distress between his human mule and the angel he hoped had come to save him."

#2: "She was a wingspan away, still pacing.  They were prowling on the edges of their mutual compulsion, both afraid to draw nearer together."

Fever, by Lauren DeStefano

1. "Gabriel stares back back at me, his eyes glassy, skin marbled and pale.  And suddenly I miss him so much that it hurts.  I miss his soft, unassuming warmth.  His hands around my face when he brought me in for our first kiss.  I know that I'm the one who took him from his element without preparing him first.  He opens his mouth to speak, and I'm filled with hope that his words will be something familiar, something warm."

2. "And farther down is the entryway to another tent that is veiled off by silk scarves trailing sickly sweet perfume, and something else.  Decay and sweat.  When Rose was dying, she concealed herself in powders and blush, but Jenna didn't, and as I cared for Jenna during those final days, I could see her sallow skin beginning to bruise, and then the bruises would sink down to the bones and fester.  It was a smell that haunted my dreams.  my sister wife rotting from the inside out."

#1. "We're at the entrance to the viaduct when Ravi spots us. Still, he doesn't break his pattern. He keeps on skating back and forth, up and down the walls. He glances over at us as we approach, and his look surprises me. His black eyes are stone cold and distant. It's lile Ravi and I have never talked, like we've never seen each other before. He's dressed in that hooded sweatshirt again."

#2. "Four and a half hours later, one chest tattoo, two ring tattoos, and a whole bunch of chocolate-chip bagels, cream cheese, and coffee later, Beau, Bonnie, and I drive David to the Will Rodgers World Airport in Oklahoma City. David and I sit in the backseat of the O'Dell's massive pickup truck. The heavy smell of the antibiotic ointment is overpowering the smell of the coffee that both Bonnie and Beau are drinking. David and I are hesitant to hold hands-even left hands-in case we bump the right ones somehow."

The Gathering, by Kelley Armstrong

#1: "After Serena died, there'd been long days and evenings, just the two of us, grieving, and sometimes he'd hug me, and that was fine because I knew it was just comfort.  But I didn't feel like I could do the same back without a really good excuse or he might take it the wrong way."

#2: "I rose onto all fours and crawled away from him, sweeping aside dried sticks and dead leaves and anything else that might crackle.  As I moved, I kept looking up into the trees.  I couldn't help it.  My gut instinct didn't just say to run, it said where to run.  Up."

Across the Universe, by Beth Revis

#1: "Orion snatches my hands away and scrubs them with a steaming hot, slightly damp towel.  It feels almost as if he's scrubbing away my skin, and when I pull away and look at my hands, they're red, but clean.  Before I can say anything, Orion shoves the towel in my face and scrubs it as well.  He's laughing, and so am I--I haven't been treated as if I was a child in need of a bath for a very long time."--Amy's point of view

#2: "I get Amy off the Keeper Level and away from Eldest as fast as I can.  The fear and exhilaration she showed when we first went up the grav tube is gone, replaced with mild disinterest.  She follows me down the path to the Hospital garden like a dog.  Her eyes stare straight ahead, not at the flowers, not at the statue of the Plague Eldest, just straight ahead.  I wonder if she's even really seeing anything at all."--Elder's point of view

Bloodrose, by Andrea Cremer

#1: "I could hear the Searchers shouting, but I couldn't make out their words over the roar of water pouring into the cavern.  Scrambling to my feet, I started to run toward their voices.  My paws were splashing through ankle-deep water.  It should have been impossible.  Water coming through that tiny cleft in the rock we'de had to worm through couldn't be this foreful.  But somehow it was.  Water that had been at my knees was already at my waist and rising, forcing me to swim.  The cave shuddered again.  Slabs of stone dropped from the ceiling."

#2: "Not jelous of his power, but of that stirring quality in his words.  He was finding himself, his true self.  Last night, I'd believed Shay when he said he wanted to stay at my side.  That he would be my mate.  Watching him now, the distance between us felt immense-he no longer seemed like a Guardian.  He was only the Scion.  What did that mean for me?"

#1: "Before I understand what I'm doing, I'm backing up, sliding my clothes off the branch behind me and retreating into the shadows.  He pulls his knees underneath him and kneels, still coughing, one hand gripping his stomach, the other sinking into the rocky, muddy shore."

#2: "My emotions rage, back and forth and up and down.  Sadness for losing Steven.  Happiness for sharing a conversation like this with Sienna.  Despair for knowing she'll never know why he really died.  Optimism about the idea that our friendship could be repaired.  Fear for what could happen if we really do become friends again, and I lose her.  I can't do it twice."

Dead Beautiful, by Yvonne Woon

#1: "Just before I turned, a file on her desk caught my eye.  It was a manila folder partially covered in papers.  It was labeled Dante Berlin.  I thought back to the day I'd met Eleanor, when she'd told me she'd asked her brother Brandon to check my file in the headmistresse's office.  Quickly, I glanced around the room, looking for a filing cabinet.  I didn't see one, though I knew it had to be there somewhere."

#2: "Mrs. Lynch's squat figure greeted me, her short hair making her look  more like a man than a dorm mother.  She looked me up and down.  I checked my outfit, making sure all of my buttons were buttoned and buckles snapped, worried she was going to reprimand me for being out of dress code."

Destiny's Fire, by Trisha Wolfe

#1:  "A group of Shythe halted mid-conversation as we passed them in the hallway. Reese squeezed my hand. We had discussed that revealing our relationship was the right thing to do, but I still felt sick to my stomach as I imagined Jace running into us. I didn’t know how I’d handle that scenerio.  I pushed the thought away.  No matter what the Councils were up to, we still had to support their decision to end the prejudice against the races.  And we also figured by publicily supporting the Council's decision, we could get closer to them-and the truth.  As we pushed through the doors to the courtyard, I noticed downcast faces everywhere.  It wasn't our display that was upsetting people, though we did get some angry looks.  There was something going on."

#2: "I was finally enjoying myself, laughing with Lana as Nick attempted to a dance move that involved jumping over his leg and falling on his backside.  I felt flush, so I stepped off the floor and moved away from the steam pipes.  As I leaned against the wall, I spotted Reese walking in from the side entrance.  My insides knotted.  But instead of turning around and avoiding him like I'd done the night before, this time, I met his challenging gaze.  His eyes widened, flashing an intense red glow as they traced me.  His lips curled into a grin and he headed sraight for me."

Love Story, by Jennifer Echols

#1: I wanted to ask him where his blond girl had gone off to.  Now that I looked, she'd disappreared from the shower, and she wasn't hanging behind him with her hand on his shoulder.  But I should not have lusted for him anyway, and he probably had no idea that he was making my skin burn on the side where he sat.  I struggled to focus on the group conversation, which had returned to Gabe.

#2: Riding was dangerous, with the constant threat of being thrown and trampled, but ironically, once I was up in the saddle and way from Boo-hoo's legs, I felt safe.  I directed her out of the stable--she was in grea spirits today, kicking up her heels and shaking her head as if bragging to the other horses that she was going for a run and they were not, ha ha, so there--and I trotted her across the paddock to the back pasture.  Then I loosened the reins and let her go.  She loved to run.

#2: "Instincitely, fire surges to the back of my throat, ready to defend, to protect myself.  I bite my lip until the taste of blood flows over my teeth.  Coppery sweet, it mingles with the flavor of char and ash."
